Recommended Data for Lithium Backup and Restoration Procedure

Overview

You are curious what Lithium system data is recommended for backup and how to perform a restore so that you are prepared in the event of a disaster.

Information

Please see the attached Backup and Restore Utility Operator Manual for R19.7

1. Backup:

Please see details related to backup in Chapter 2 Backup of the manual. Please note that:

  • Section 2.7 Files and Directories for Backup reveals the needed backup files for restoring the app configuration.
  • Section 2.9 Databases for Backup contains information on DB backup of servers that contain databases such as MGR and LGP.
    • Please note that it is extremely important to backup the MGR DB. All other info can be manually restored with PSE Support in the event of a disaster.
    • The LGP and STV databases may be lost if there is a disaster and there is no backup, however they are not a must-have for the SMSC to work after a disaster as they are only present for historic troubleshooting and Statistics. Thus, because of their size, backing them up is left to the customer's discretion.
    • The SPF DB is somewhat different (NDB), which requires a special procedure to backup and restore (contained in the manual), but if you are not using the SPF for anything, the DB's will be possibly empty, so it is recommended not to spend time backing up this DB.

2. Restore:

Please see details related to backup in Chapter 3 Recovery of the manual.
