How to enable Telnet on newly installed Lithium servers

Overview

You may have recently installed a new Lithium system comprised of several servers. You find that  the automated OS installation image installs an OS in which the TELNET service is not available. Thus, a user logged into one of the new servers is unable to run TELNET to connect to a 3rd party server. You wish to know how to enable the TELNET client on all the newly installed servers.

Solution

Please find attached with this article the TELNET rpm for the installation. To solve this issue:

As root user place the attached rpm under /var/Packages/OS folder and execute the following commands:

  1. chmod 555 telnet-0.17-64.el7.x86_64.rpm
  2. yum install telnet-0.17-64.el7.x86_64.rpm

Note: This procedure will not impact your servers or service in any way.
